Due: Tuesday, Oct 5.
Give the students an opportunity to show you what they've learned!
Students need to work outside of the classroom in order to remain on pace and to be successful. Average students can expect to work 60-90 minutes each 'virtual learning' day they are not in class. If your student needs internet/computer access, they can schedule to use the LHS computer lab Monday-Friday.
Geometry students have a unit test scheduled for this Thursday, while Algebra 2 students have a unit test scheduled for this Tuesday.
All math grades are updated and current. LHS is sending progress reports home this week, but if you need a report before that please let me know.
At Home Learning during the Covid-19 closure.
All grades are updated for the week. If you have any questions, please let me know.
There are only 8 schools days left in the term. All classes will have the Chapter 9 Cumulative test on Thursday, March 5th. After the chapter test, we will review for the 9-wks exam, March 10-11.
Grades will be finalized before Spring Break which is March 16-20.
Mr. Jackson's students can solve this word problem to be entered to win a large jar of Peanut M&M's. All entries are due by October 30 and the drawing will be held October 31. Families are encouraged to help their students complete this challenge.

This is a good article to help you understand some of the difficulties your child may be struggling with. Many students are having difficulty with the increased work load, responsibility, and time management pressures of high school. These students often are not earning the grades they expect which compounds the issue. Please check in with your child daily about their classes. It is always better to be proactive and address issues early before they can have a negative impact on their high school career.
Students received progress reports on Thursday, and all grades are updated for the week. 13 students completed all their assignments last week, and 22 students scored an A or B on Chapter 2's Test 1.
Chapter 2 Test 1:
2nd Period: 75.2% class average
3rd Period: 56.6% class average
4th Period: 73.2% class average
Students may turn in missing assignments for credit or correct tests to improve their grade.
We are halfway through the first 9-weeks, and our exam is scheduled for Oct 4. Students who complete their daily assignments continually score better on their tests/exam. Skills progress daily, and students have new classwork/homework every night. Tutoring is available after school.
If you have any questions, or would like a detailed progress report, please let me know.
Please plan to attend the open house. I will be explaining class expectations, grading policies, and curriculum. This is a critical class for all freshman as they will be taking the state mandated proficiency exam in the spring. A passing score is required for graduation. I look forward to meeting you and developing a home-school connection to aid your child in accomplishing their goals.
Progress reports went home Friday. They need to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned for extra credit. I send detailed reports every two weeks. An electronic report may be requested at any time .
Tomorrow is the MS Book festival in Jackson, MS. Many authors will be on site to sign books and there are several lectures/talks scheduled. A lot of students listed "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas as a favorite read. This author will be participating in a discussion at 12:00 and a book signing at 1:45. Dav Pilky, The author of the "Captain Underpants" series will be present as well. This event is free to the public. Checkout the festival website for more information.
The syllabus, parent letter, and contact information went home with students this week. If you did not see the documents they are available here under the Algebra 1 tab. I am very excited about this group of students and look forward to working with them this year. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to contact me.
This is a great opportunity to check in with your students teacher and learn about the information that has been gathered about student growth and projected performance on state tests.
